Why the last rod matters

In a Reddit help thread, a player had spent a rod at a Nail and then lacked material for a Workbench. A reply advised searching downstairs for loose rods and keeping one for a nearby lever. A separate Steam thread identifies a broken floor lever at the prison's weight-door mechanism as an iron repair point.

Before putting every rod into camp construction, inspect that mechanism and what your current save still needs. The downstairs pickup lead is one player's report; we have not verified its screenshot as a navigable map location.

Smelting: what is known

The same Reddit reply describes using a Smelter with Scrap Metal and Coal, giving three Scrap Metal for one Iron Rod. It does not specify the Coal quantity. Treat that ratio as a single-player lead and check the current crafting menu before spending supplies.

The planner counts finished Iron Rods required by selected recipes. It deliberately leaves rod production out, because an incomplete Coal cost would make an automatic shopping list misleading.

A useful spending check

The selected secondary recipe data lists two Iron Rods for a Workbench and two for Chains. Compare those costs with the lever repair and any existing items in your inventory. Do not assume every listed recipe is already unlocked just because its material cost is visible on this site.
