Learn the chain and group positioning before chasing an optimized build. Track what caused a failed round so the next run changes one meaningful decision.

Before the first fight

The developer frames Chained Beasts as an arena roguelike built around shared chains, injuries and cooperative combat. Our first-run recommendation is to choose a learning goal small enough to evaluate: staying together, reading one enemy, or understanding one affliction.

  1. Confirm the party size and devices before judging combat responsiveness.
  2. Agree which direction means retreat and where a regroup should happen.
  3. Read your current weapon and skill descriptions. Do not rely on an older demo tier list for a different build.
  4. Pick one mechanic to practice instead of changing every choice after every loss.

During the fight

The store describes chains as a way to trip foes and the arena as something to use creatively. Older player accounts support the basic trip idea. We have not measured an execution window or found evidence for a universally best starting weapon.

Our suggested debrief asks: were you blocked by geometry, separated by movement, confused by a new effect, or simply unfamiliar with the encounter? Those categories suggest different next attempts. Repeating the same setup once can help distinguish a consistent rule from an isolated mistake.

Between fights

Record the choice you made and the behavior you expected from it. If it adds a drawback, explain that drawback to the group before resuming. The afflictions reference covers three developer-described examples; it is more useful to understand their effects than to assume every negative status has the same cost.

This is an editorial learning routine, not a tested speedrun or guaranteed winning build. Use the progression article for launch content and the patch notes for changes that may affect comparisons between runs.
